March 9, 2015 UPDATE ON ETHAN HOOPER:

Ethan Hooper won 2nd place in the state American Legion Oratorical contest on March 7.  He won $1,000 scholarship!  Congratulations Ethan!

 

Chaz Potts, 6th grade, competed in the Mathematics/Computer Science category of the science fair with his project called 'What’s the ROI of LEDs?' Chaz won 1st place in the SCA Intermediate Science Fair.  He won 2nd place in the SCA Middle School Science Fair. His project was taken to the 60th Annual Piedmont Region III Science Fair where he competed and won 1st place!  Congratulations Chaz!

 

Timothy Pack, 8th grade; Matthew Christopher, 8 th grade; Ben Christopher, senior; Michael Burgess, 8th grade; and Dylan Wright, 8 th grade ran in a half marathon at Myrtle Beach, SC Saturday, February 14. Each guy received a medal for finishing the race.  Michael Burgess placed 1st in his age division.

 

Middle School science Fair Winners

The Lawson Academy of the Arts presented Shining Stars last Saturday, February 7 at Converse College.  SCA's ninth grader, Laura Mitchell played the violin at this performance.  She has been playing the violin for 8 years.

Laura, included with thirty more of the most exceptional students, was chosen to perform on this special evening's showcase to benefit the Lawson Series. This series was establised in the year 2000 with a generous gift from Alia Lawson and has enriched the program, Converse and the greater Spartanburg community.

Limestone College helped Spartanburg Christian Academy wide receiver Tyler Traynham make history Wednesday.

Traynham became the first SCA player to sign with a college program when he agreed to join the Saints. SCA just completed its second season of varsity football. The Warriors finished 2-8.

Traynham led the team with eight touchdown catches. He said he is looking forward to continuing his career with the Saints.

SCa's Battle of the Books Team placed third at the South Carolina Junior Beta Club Convention on January 15.  Team members are: Robert Bailey, Madi Burke, Savannah Brown and Sam Arp

Congratulations to the following students who were honored with breakfast and a certificate at the second quarter Breakfast of Champions on January 13.  The Breakfast is part of the character emphasis program at SCA for 5K-6th grades and is based on the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5: 22-23.
