Our History
In 1996, SCA began as a result of much prayer and vision on the part of many who dreamed of providing a quality Christian education to our young people in order for them to confidently go out and shed light into a dark world. The program grew out of an exemplary preschool program directed by Mrs. Donna Locke, the current Elementary principal. With a growing number of students and staff, much needed to be decided about the school’s exciting future. The challenge of deciding upon the school name, mascot, and school colors began. Even more challenging was deciding on curriculum and facilities, and scheduling activities. Still, the vision of Spartanburg Christian Academy slowly began to form with great expectations. The preschool was soon moved to the rooms in the old gym, and a take-out lunch was served on long tables in the gymnasium. Students were even allowed to microwave food from home! Often lunch and PE classes were occurring simultaneously. When the school first began, there was no library, so a bookmobile was used for resources and chapel was held in the old sanctuary. Despite the inadequate facilities, students were being educated well and were learning spiritual truths and morals from the different programs they were exposed to, including RIGGS, a program unlike any other in the area. The student population steadily increased, and the school quickly outgrew its facilities. Through the commitment of the church, facilities were expanded to include a beautiful library and lunchroom that also would serve as the church’s Fellowship Hall. High school was added, and along with it came an intercom, 2 computer labs, and televisions in each class room for televised in-room announcements, and a science lab. Spartanburg Christian Academy has been blessed with phenomenal growth. It will continue to strive for academic excellence as it works to instill Christian character in its students. The school’s leaders have confidence in and look forward to how the Lord will build upon the foundation of the past decade to continue in developing a very bright future.
